George H. Grinnell The saga of the “Grinnells” began in 1918, with the purported gift of a number of Hawaiian Missionary stamps to George H. Grinnell from a man named Charles Shattuck. What followed was a decades-long quest by Grinnell, and later his descendants, to prove the authenticity of these stamps. Nearly one hundred years after the Grinnell Missionaries appeared on the scene, this philatelic detective story remains one of the most tantalizing in the history of stamp collecting. Here is that story. A Genuine 13¢ Hawaiian Missionary stamp on cover Ex the Christian H. Aall Collection. Courtesy Siegel Auction Galleries Copyright 2016 Mystic Stamp Company, Inc.
